My 1st Grade Friends

Throughout this internship, I have learned many wonderful things. I have learned a lot about how each and every child learns differently. I also have learned to never chose favorites and love each student equally even though it may be hard. There are many students in the class I have interned in that make it really hard for the rest of the class and the teacher. My job has been to help these students catch up and feel like they are smart so they can keep working hard. Doing this has helped me learn about patience and learning more about caring for the students. It can be really hard but it’s worth it when you see the student learning and growing.
My favorite thing is whenever I walk into the classroom they all say my name and wave. Feeling that love from a little kid is amazing. I also have loved playing with them at recess and getting to know about their lives. They all have so many stories and love to tell people about things that they are doing. They tell me about each of their family members, pets, and so much more. I also love the innocence of a child. They are so caring and loving and I think I get more hugs then I deserve. They also are always holding my hand and fighting for who gets to hold “Ms. Kallie’s” hand. I also have loved helping them with math and English. They love it. As they learn, their eyes light up when they figure out a question. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to get kids to understand things sometimes but once they get it, it’s the best feeling in the world. I have also had the opportunity to pull out some peoples teeth. That’s one thing I didn’t think I would be doing in my internship but surprisingly enough losing teeth is a big thing at the elementary school. The classroom even has a tooth chart! After they lose their tooth, the office gives them a little treasure box to put it in.
I also love going to art with them. They love showing off their work. It has taught me to be proud of things you do and not be ashamed of it. I also love the confidence they have in themselves. They don’t care how each other look. All they care about is how the person is on the inside. I also have loved watching the teacher teach. You can really tell that she loves what she is doing. She has a big grin on her face as she teaches and it makes the students love learning also.

This internship has made me want to be a teacher and has helped me absolutely love it. It has made me want to work with kids more and learn more about them. Teaching has also made me not worry as much and just be happier.
