Making Our Home Like a Temple

I have been married for a whole MONTH now and it has been the best! Since me and Jaydon are starting our life together, it is our job to make our home feel like a temple where we and others can feel the spirit and learn and grow. As I was decorating our new house, I thought of little things I have learned growing up that has helped me stay close to God that I can carry on into my new family.
4 Ways to Make Your Home a Holy Place
1. Keep Your Home Clean
This one can be hard! Even though it is just me and Jaydon, I have to constantly be working on keeping things clean and putting things where they need to go. I have found how easy it can be if you just put things in the right spot the first time instead of just setting it down wherever and let it keep building up.
Things I have learned when I keep the house clean is that I am able to feel less stressed and because of that, be able to feel the spirit more in my home.

2. Put Pictures of the Temple/Christ/Family/Etc. Throughout Your House
When I was decorating. I made sure I set pictures of the temple or of Christ where we would be able to see them ALL the time! I love walking in the door or going to get in bed and seeing a picture of me and Jaydon at the temple or The Family Proclamation.  Seeing that every day helps build a habit of reminding ourselves to think good thoughts, act in a Christlike way, and so much more.

3. Read and Pray Together
This one is so important. Sometimes I feel like I rush my scripture study and prayer at night or just get used to it and don't put my whole heart into it. When that happens to me, I think of my day and everything I did and realized that Heavenly Father gave me all of that. He gave me everything (even time) so I should give some of my time to learn and study more about him. Me and Jaydon also read with each other and pray as a couple. The power of prayer and scripture study in our little family has changed the way we act, think and do things. Doing that helps increase our desire to become more Christlike. Jaydon wakes up really early for work and I am usually out of it but he still says prays with me every morning and I have felt out love grow so strong from that.

4. Music, Media, etc.
Me and Jaydon love to watch movies, listen to music, and so much more. It is so important to KEEP the spirit in your home by choosing to listen to music and watching movies/tv shows that invite the spirit. That can be hard and I am still working on it but have found that when I do, I am in the right mindset to listen to the spirit and I also find myself not so negative. Jaydon is super good with not looking at his phone and being in the moment. He has always been a good example to me with that. I always have to remind myself that social media will always be there but good memories with my Husband, family, and friends won't. Jaydon also made this rule that I have to be with him for him to use his computer and that we both have all access to everything on each others phone. This helps us trust each other and can save our marriage as well.

....It's so hard to be perfect at all of these but what makes us perfect is that we try the best we can. If you have any other ways to make your home like a temple, comment below. I would love to hear.

Here are some good talks that helped me learn to make my home a Holy Place....

Being Married

Being married truly has been the best/greatest journey. I love having someone to share everything from toothpaste to stories. Jaydon really has impressed me and makes me want to do better. One thing I have learned is to marry someone that you want to become like. Spending a lot of time with Jayd has made me want to be more like him. Also, marry someone you are best friends with. It was funny. On our honeymoon, we had our goggles on and were swimming around like little kids. Jaydon looked up at me with my crazy swim hair and goggles on and said, "I married a 13 year old" we honestly just have a blast. Also, always put Christ first. Pray together, read scriptures together, and more. Our relationship has gotten so much closer when we have Christ at our center.
